Poetry.

Macaws and Toucans are enjoying exploring poetry.

The children all shared and selected a favourite poem.

The two classes enjoyed performing their poems. Some worked in pairs, some in small groups and one was brave enough to perform on their own!

Favourite poems included The Michael Rosen Rap and Please Mrs Butler by Allan Ahllberg.

We enjoyed the performances outside and the children gave feedback to each other.

" I enjoyed watching Macaws as they added actions into their performances and they looked as though they were enjoying it." wrote one Toucan child after the lesson.

Reading at Home

Dear Parents and Carers,

At St Michael’s we work in partnership with you to ensure your child has the greatest opportunity to develop into a confident, fluent reader. All readers must develop both the ability to decode each word and then to understand what the text has told them.  In response to requests from parents we have created some ideas for questions to support you in developing your child’s comprehension at home. These questions stems are based on the age-related expectations of the National Curriculum (please see attached). When you are reading with your child, refer to the ideas for questions for guidance in asking challenging questions that will improve your child’s understanding of what they are reading.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask me or your child’s class teacher.

Many thanks,

English Coordinator
