St Michael's Primary School

Together we achieve

Year 4

Welcome To Year 4

Miss Lake (teacher)

Mrs Stevens (TA)

Miss Babar (teacher)

Mrs Goodchild (TA)

This is what we will be covering this year:

Our topic this term:

This term we will be finding out about where mountains are located in the UK and the rest of the world, how they are formed, what their keys features are, what their weather and climates are like and why people visit mountains. We will also be finding out about rocks, soils, earthquakes and volcanoes.

In year 4, we complete reading, spellings, times tables, a skills sheet and projects.

On a MONDAY we are tested on our times tables. It says in our diaries which one we need to learn and we have 45 seconds to complete 12 questions.

On a TUESDAY we hand in our projects once a term. We can choose from different options but must turn them in via Google Classroom by the date given. The options, date and classroom code are stuck in our diaries and are in the document below.

On a THURSDAY we hand in our skills sheet and get given a new one. One week we have maths and the next week we get English. These sheets help us to practise skills we have been covering in class.

Reading should be completed at least 5 times each week and recorded in diaries. We change reading books when it says finished/end in the diary. Reading diaries must be signed by an adult each time the child reads. The number of times read is counted up on a FRIDAY.

On a FRIDAY we are tested on our spellings. They are stuck in the back of our home-school diaries and are on the document below.

Other Useful Information

  • Our PE days are Mondays and Fridays (Giraffes) and Tuesdays and Wednesdays (Zebras) and will take place outside, weather permitting. Please make sure children come in wearing suitable kit on these days. Earrings must be removed or taped up and hair must be tied up if it can be.

Some handy questions to ask when listening to children read

These are the calculation methods that we use in year 4.
